U of T staff: Level up your AI skills with the Data Sciences Institute!

With AI becoming increasingly important for work, the University of Toronto’s AI Task Force’s report, Toward an AI-Ready University, calls for AI literacy and training for all employees. U of T staff who want to build the skills and confidence to apply generative AI effectively in their work have a new opportunity for learning with the Data Sciences Institute. 

“For those looking to build on existing programming knowledge, the Deploying AI microcredential is an opportunity to gain hands-on, practical skills, to meet our needs to support for AI literacy for U of T employees,” notes Bill Brennan, Assistant Director, Learning and Leadership Development, Centre for Learning, Leadership & Culture.  

DSI Launches Unique Microcredential in Genetic Data Analysis

As the volume and complexity of genomic data grow, so does the need for researchers with specialized skills in genomic data analysis.

To meet this need, the Data Sciences Institute is launching the new Genetic Data Analysis Toolbox. This 6-week microcredential provides focused, hands-on training in tools and methods to analyze and interpret data generated by modern genomics technology.

Deploying AI Microcredential Sees Soaring Interest from Professionals

The Data Sciences Institute’s Deploying AI microcredential is a massive success in its first session. Organizations are seeking employees who can deploy AI responsibly and effectively—and professionals are responding with incredible demand for learning opportunities to build their skills.

Responding to input from learners and employers, DSI launched Deploying AI this fall and the enthusiasm from learners was palpable. The offering quickly sold out, reflecting soaring demand for the tools and confidence to deploy generative AI at scale.

DSI Networking Event Connects Employers and Learners

On November 12, 2025, the Data Sciences Institute hosted an exciting morning of employer networking for our Certificates learners in partnership with Scale Without Borders.

Learners heard from Prof. Rohan Alexander, Director, Technical Skills and Curriculum, keynote speaker Saima Malik, who is Head of Automation at TD and Sakib Sadat, a Product Owner at Manulife and a participant in one of our recent Certificates cohorts.

Learners also met with representatives from employers across a range of industries.

DSI Upskilling at the Immigrants in Tech and Data Analytics for the Public Sector summits

On October 20, 2025, the Data Sciences Institute partnered with Scale Without Borders at their Immigrants in Tech 2025 Summit, Canada’s largest event celebrating immigrant tech talent, founders, and executives. We engaged with employers committed to inclusive hiring in tech and connected with learners—newcomers building their careers in data science and AI in Canada.

On October 21 and 22, 2025, sponsoring the Data Analytics for the Public Sector Summit 2025, a great opportunity to connect with employers exploring data and AI talent pipelines, and learners building careers at the intersection of strategy, data science and public policy.
