How to Apply - Admission Process

All Certificate applicants are required to submit an application form. Eligible applicants will be invited to a brief virtual interview to confirm suitability for the Certificate programming and evaluate preparedness for career transition. Applicants who meet the program criteria will receive an offer of admission to register and pay the Certificate fee and receive their Onboarding Guide.

Admission Criteria

  • Resident of Ontario 
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, convention refugee, CUAET holder, or refugee claimant eligible to work in Canada 
  • Currently unemployed, underemployed or employed with plans to transition to the in-demand fields of data science or machine learning within the next 6 months 
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience 
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma
  • Level 8 Canadian Language Benchmark, or IELTS of 6.5 overall   

1. Application

Fill out the online application on the DSI Application portal and upload required documents.  

  • Register an account and select “Start Application” for “Data Science & Machine Learning Certificates ”.   
  • The application is divided into tabs; each tab includes a set of instructions to fill out. You will be asked for information on your work and education experience, demographic info, etc.    
  • As part of the application process, you will need to upload your transcript/diploma/certificate of completion. You can save the application and come back to it at any time before the closing date. 

2. Virtual Interview

Applicants who meet the admission criteria will then be invited to complete a brief virtual interview to discuss their goals within the program.  

3. Invitation to register and pay fee

Applicants who best meet the criteria will receive an offer of admission.

4. Registrations

Admitted applicants are invited to pay the Certificate fee to complete registration. Registrants receive their Certificate onboarding guide to begin their 16-week Certificate. 

Cancellation and Refunds

Registration Cancellation: If you find it necessary to cancel your registration for the program, please contact us before the start date of the Certificate. 

Refunds: The following refund policy applies to the Certificates: 

  • Refunds are not possible if your request is submitted less than five (5) business working days before the Certificate start date.  
  • Refunds are subject to a seventy-five (75) Canadian Dollars administrative charge per certificate. 
  • We issue refunds in the original method of payment and to the original payee only.  

Course Rescheduling and Instructor Substitution: We reserve the right to reschedule courses or job skills training or substitute instructors without liability.  

Non-Attendance: Non-attendance of a Certificate or any part thereof is not eligible for a refund. 

Compassion Circumstances: We may consider one-time exceptions to our refund policy (minus administration fees), in rare circumstances such as a case of family and/or medical emergencies. The Data Sciences Institute reserves the right to make this decision. Please send such requests here, with a short description of your circumstances.
