The Data Sciences Institute, in partnership with University of Toronto Libraries, is pleased to announce available funding to train DSI members on how to teach technical skills through The Carpentries Instructor Training program. The Carpentries is an organization dedicated to teaching foundational coding and data science skills to researchers. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to learn how to teach technical skills through an inclusive pedagogy and become a certified Carpentries Instructor. Through its certified Instructors, The Carpentries provides accessible programming encompassing three streams that can be customized for a wide range of disciplines —Data Carpentry, Library Carpentry, and Software Carpentry.
Successful applicants will be immersed in a virtual two-day or four-half day workshop on the pedagogy of teaching foundational coding and data science skills to novice learners. Participants will also learn more about The Carpentries community and the process of becoming a certified Carpentries Instructor. Please note that Instructor Training focuses on developing skill and knowledge about evidence-based teaching practices and does not teach specific technologies. To learn more about the curriculum for the Carpentries Instructor Training course, click here.
